Alternative dishes

We have all heard of the word alternative. A definition would be: Existing outside traditional or established institutions or systems such as an alternative lifestyles or alternative music. Well, lo and behold there is also such a thing as alternative meals (or dishes). It would consist of  taking a regular dish and using different (or alternative) ingredients to create the traditional meal.

Here is one that that I am eager to try.  If you have done these or any others, please do share!!!

P.s This post was longer with other dishes, however, blogger would not allow me to post (sanely) the others with out freezing. I will try to bring other to the table (literally) at another date.

Enjoy!!

Asperabuss

No, that's not a new vegetable, it's just the way my 21 month old says asparagus.  Asparagus is a funny vegetable because it has to be cooked just right in order for most to enjoy. I love asparagus but that wasn't always the case so it has gotten me some time as well to get used to the taste & texture.   Since, it's a very healthy option for a side dish, I decided to experiment with a different recipe so that all can enjoy.

Enter Parmesan crunchy asparagus spears.

Disclaimer: Excuse all my blackberry shots for now, I am still working on utilizing my "real" camera for blog post pictures.

My prep work, I made sure to use whole wheat flour and I also didn't utilize the entire amount of cheese that the recipe calls for.

Final product

These were pretty good, Very crunchy which really takes away from the asparagus normal texture. My son loved them and we decided to call them chips because they crunched like them and it worked to get him to eat them.  SCORE!!   This is definitely NOT a food fail. Next time, I will try to make them crunchier.

No time for grilling...that's okay.

On days (normally) when I do a strength training routine, I want to ensure that I am getting plenty of protein for muscle growth.  However, I am not always going to be able to grill or broil up some chicken for the day. So, the perfect healthy option are protein smoothie. There are an abundance of recipes out there for them, however, I always like to keep mine simple.

Here is one of my go to recipes for a protein smoothie.

  • 1 Scoop of Muscle Milk-Vanilla
  • 1/2 cup of frozen raspberries (these are fresh that I had previously frozen)
  • 1/2 cup of fresh mangoes
  • 1/2 cup of unsweetened silk soy milk
  • 1 ice cube
  • 1/2 cup or less of water.

Have a  foodilicous day!!

    An amazing discovery

Yesterday, I went and did some damage at Costco.  I mean seriously, when does anyone NOT do damage there when shopping. At any rate, we bought some amazing and healthy foods for the week(s).  I knew that I wanted to find something yummy (and healthy) for a snack but I don't normally venture down the snack aisle at Costco because all they have is SUGAR based products but since I was hungry (bad choice) I decided to just take a look....and BAM, I saw these beauties:

    ALMOND POPS w/Blueberries.

They are  amazing!!  They are only140 calories for 8 pieces and 50 fat grams.
Vegan, Gluten-Free, Wheat free...the list goes on.  The ingredients are natural and simple. The only drawback is that it has cane sugar and rice syrup but that is just to hold it together and a kick of sweetness. It's the best thing ever!! I LOVE them!!!

I highly recommend you get your snack on and get these before they disappear. They will not disappoint!!

    Have a foodilicous day!!!
